Finding the silver lining.

The excitement of our weekend began Friday night at 9:30, when I went to drain the tub after Molly's bath.

And the tub didn't drain.

And the toilet began to bubble and gurgle.

And then the tub began to drain...up through the pipes and into the tub in the master bath. And then neither one of our toilets would flush...at all.

I phoned up our handy property management company and put in the emergency call. I'm thinking six people and no flushing potties definitely constituted an emergency.

The property management company put in a call to a plumber. The plumber in turn, phoned us early Saturday morning around seven. Mind you, in between all this, we've dealt with musical beds all night, a dog that woke us up twice to potty during the night and a dear friend who texted me at 6:07 am to drag me to yoga and then wanted the full 9-1-1 on why I wasn't going to yoga. Um, cause I was a little overwhelmed and exhausted. Amanda, you know I love you. Next week 'kay?! :)

Anywho, the first plumber arrived Saturday morning around eleven and delivered the news to us that the main sewer line that runs out of the house was broken.

Initially he guestimated Tuesday before they could get anyone out to dig up the yard. I'm not sure what happened, but he left and phoned another guy in their company who told us they'd have someone out around 2 p.m. It might have been the cup of coffee I gave the first plumber. He told me my coffee was delicious and appreciated my hospitality. I just smiled and reminded him that not all Yankees were evil. He chuckled.

By five thirty or so, we were all fixed up and good to go.

Literally.

Now many of you know I've really struggled with the limitations of our being renters. Harnessing my desire to want to decorate and add touches to the property has been really hard for me. But when the bill for the work was presented, I was so, so thankful it wasn't my check that had to pay the bill. Right there in that moment I found my silver lining!!!

Now, Kim, that IS a first-class silver lining. SO much so. I'm so glad you have your -ahem- powder rooms up and running again, so everyone else can be up and running, too. (Totally know what that's like. Ugh. But we had to pay the bill. Double Ugh.)
